The Healthy Habits Youth Triathlon Series is all about kids. 2013 is our fourth year for the series. It is a fun way to introduce the sport of triathlon to children in Maine. Our goal is to teach children that exercise is crucial for good health. Eating right, drinking plenty of water, and getting enough exercise are Healthy Habits we hope to instill in the children participating in this race series. The events are open to all children ages 5-15*.
The series is comprised of three races. The first is in Biddeford, the second is in Sanford and the third is in Freeport.
*At the Biddeford Aquathlon, ages are based on race day age. At the triathlons, ages are based on the child's age as of 12/31/13.
Any type of bike is perfect for our races. (The Freeport course is entirely on dirt roads, so road bikes with narrow tires might not be the best choice.)
Biddeford Healthy Habits Youth Aquathlon
Our races are sanctioned by USAT and the distances are all age-appropriate
The swims in Biddeford and Sanford are in YMCA pools. The swim in Freeport is in the very protected waters of Casco Bay at Winslow Park.
We do ask that one adult from each family be available as a race day volunteer. We will communicate via email on the Thursday evening prior to the race, letting you know what your volunteer position is. Most of the positions involve standing along the course and pointing the kids in the right direction while also cheering them on.
Having parents volunteering for the entire race also allows the kids to complete the race on their own and achieve a greater feeling of accomplishment.
(We do have volunteers in the Transition Area to help the younger kids with shoelaces, etc.)
Without every family providing an adult volunteer, we cannot staff these races to allow our kids to safely participate.
